Jerry Rice continues to make big plays and the 1971 Dallas Cowboys continue to struggle on offense.

Rice caught nine passes for 111 yards and one touchdown to lead the 1989 San Francisco 49ers to a 27-17 victory over the '71 Cowboys. The Niners' third straight win pushed their record to 5-3 while the Cowboys fell to 3-5 with their fourth loss in five games.

Through eight weeks, Rice is making a case for Super League MVP with 53 catches for 827 yards and six touchdowns. His second-quarter 18-yard touchdown from Joe Montana gave San Francisco a 17-7 halftime lead. Montana finished 23 of 37 for 262 yards.

Duane Thomas rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns but had one of the Cowboys' two fumbles. Roger Staubach was 10 of 19 for 138 yards as Dallas had just 251 total yards.
