Franco Harris ran for 114 yards, Larry Anderson returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and Mel Blount returned an interception for another score as the 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the 1971 Dallas Cowboys 23-12 in Week 9 Super League action.
Harris recorded his fifth straight 100-yard game, but it was defense and special teams that lifted the Steelers (5-4). The Steelers held the Cowboys (3-6) without a touchdown and Blount's second-quarter pick and 36-yard return gave Pittsburgh a 13-6 lead. In the third quarter, after a Dallas field goal made it 13-9, Anderson returned the ensuing kickoff to make it 20-9.
Roger Staubach was 10 for 23 for 179 yards and two interceptions for Dallas. Harris and Rocky Bleier combined for 173 yards rushing for Pittsburgh.
