Dolphins beat mistake-prone Boys

The Miami Dolphins' "No-Name" defense once again wreaked havoc.

For the second consecutive week, the 1972 Dolphins forced four turnovers en route to a Super League victory, beating the 1992 Dallas Cowboys 34-24. Safety Jake Scott twice intercepted Troy Aikman, linebacker Doug Swift intercepted another pass and returned it for a touchdown, and Bill Stanfill recovered an Emmitt Smith fumble. The Dolphins (2-0) weren't always pretty -- they committed three turnovers of their own -- but they made the game's big plays.

Dallas (1-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter when Smith (129 yards) scored the first of his two touchdowns, but Miami quickly countered with a pounding drive featuring Larry Csonka (93 yards) and culminating with Earl Morrall's 18-yard TD pass to Marlin Briscoe.

Dallas led 14-7 when the miscues started piling up. Aikman's first interception late in the second quarter led to Morrall's 35-yard TD pass to Briscoe to tie the game at halftime. On the Cowboys' opening possession of the second half, Scott outwrestled Alvin Harper for another pick, leading to a Miami field goal. On Dallas' next possession, Smith fumbled, leading to another field goal and a 20-14 Miami lead. The Cowboys cut the lead to 20-17, but Miami responded with a Mercury Morris TD run and then Swift stepped in front of tight end Jay Novacek for a 29-yard interception return.
