Trailing 14-10 at halftime, the 1989 San Francisco 49ers had an idea in the second half: Give the ball to Jerry Rice.

After being held without a catch in the first half, Rice caught seven balls after intermission -- two for touchdowns -- as the 49ers beat the 1998 Denver Broncos 31-21 to snap a two-game losing skid.

The Niners (2-2) got the ball first in the second half, and Joe Montana immediately found Rice down the middle for 33 yards. Three plays later, he hit Rice on 17-yard slant. After a Denver punt, Montana and Rice went back to work. Rice for 14, Rice for 11, two Roger Craig runs and then Rice for a 20-yard touchdown. San Francisco up 24-14. Game over.

Montana finished 23-for-34 for 255 yards, while Craig had 24 carries for 127 yards and two scores.

The Broncos fell to 1-3 as their passing game again struggled. While John Elway threw three touchdown passes, he was just 12-for-25 for 137 yards.
